Sigleif

siglief 2

Sigleif, son of Torvald Snorrison and Eadhild, Thegn to Jarl Floki Hinn Kaldr and Hersir Bersi Bollisen.

His father was a Danish farmer and his mother was a Saxon dairy maid. Sigleif was raised on a farm near Huntandun, which was a town taken by the Danes during the reign of Alfred. Due to the large number of people with Danish heritage where he lived he was raised being told stories of the Aesir and the Vanir, Of Odin and Thor. Despite this he counts himself as a Christian, due to his proximity to mainly Saxon populations.

His early life was farm labour, caring for the animals and helping his father and mother look after their farm. He was taught some basic fighting skills from his father, such as how to wield a spear and axe to ward of f the bandits and brigands that plagued the recently conquered lands.

When he came of age he descided to set off into the world in search of adventure and glory. He joined a trading caravan heading for Wessex, he joined to provide manual labour and assistance however ended up guarding the caravan full time. He saved his wealth and purchased a helmet, mail and a sword as he was richly rewarded for his services.

On one trip to Jorvik Sigleif fell in love with a Saxon woman called Gytha, who was a cook planning to ply her trade in Jorvik. Sigleif has since started escorting the caravan of an old trader called Floki, he was heading south and Sigleif prefers the warmer climate down south, Gytha came with him.

Sigleif has earned a name for himself as the hungriest member of the group, he will eat all food given to him. He has also proved himself a competent warrior with spear, axe and sword. He has formed a close bond with Beorhtric, them both being Christians following a mostly pagan trading caravan. Beorhtric also happens to be a tax collector and therefore always has spare coin for mead, ale or food, which is one of the things Sigleif most likes about him.

Sigleif has been trained by Hersir Bersi Bollisen and is progressing well in the warband, he has taken the same oath as Bersi to be as honourable as possible. He often confuses his enemies by being left handed.
