Egil Haakonsson, Hersir to Floki hinn Kaldr, son of Haakon Olafson and Vény Leifdottir. Born in Norway. his father, a fisherman, died at sea shortly after Egil’s birth, he was therefore raised by his mother and his uncle, Sigurd Olafson. Egil, like most boys in his village, was taught how to fish and fight from an early age, while not as strong and large as the others, Egil showed an understanding of weapons craft and usually came out the victor in training. At the age of fifteen, Egil decided to leave his home to find wealth and fame, of which there was none in fishing.
Finding work alongside mercenaries, Egil found he had a knack for gambling and soon amassed a small fortune at the expense of those around him. He quickly became unpopular among the mercenaries he traveled with and, seeing the danger he had put himself in, took leave of them. He took his wealth with him and purchased arms and armour, his sword being his most prized position. He traveled around Scandinavia looking for employment when he happened to cross paths with Floki hinn Kaldr. Floki was traveling west to the lands of the Saxons and the Angles and Egil followed along looking for adventure. Egil soon proved a competent fighter and loyal to a fault, even when he may have been better served by staying out of a bar fight he would sooner stand by his friends than protect himself. Before long he was made Hersir and continues to serve to this day.
Egil can often be found side by side in the wall with Hersir Bersi Bollisen, both men sharing shared heritage from Norway and shared ideals. These two are also found sparing and learning from each other, often making game of calling each other names and telling tall tales of the others exploits.
Egil is looked up to as one fo the warriors that has spent the most time fighting, he is well respected within the hird.
