Naalbinding is used to create fabrics by passing a full length of the working thread through each loop. It is sometimes referred to as ‘knotless knitting’.
The needles used would be made out of wood, antler or bone. The needles used were long and flat with one hole at the top of it. While the yarn used would preferably be wool.
It is often seen as a difficult technique, but with practice can be very useful, specifically in kit making. Within the group hats and socks have been produced using the naalbinding technique.
In this photo, Jon shows a traditional hat made by naalbinding.
